Pretty sure mine is dying a slow death- power brakes aren't working so hot and the AC blows out the defrost vents until RPM's come up. The pump is also making more noise and there is a buzzing under the dash that goes up/down with rpm.
Question- will a failing vac pump cause the e-brake light in the dash to come on? Since this problem started the e-brake light has been on also. At first it was intermittent, now it's on all the time.
I wired it to a switch for my AIC since the stock sensor is so temperamental. The AIC needs to see the light on or it won't activate, and way back when I first installed it in my SD the switch on the e-brake wasn't working right. Run the e-brake wire to a toggle switch, flip the switch, light comes on and life is good.
Since the e-brake actually gets used on a regular basis and the sensor is working (at least for now) in my new truck I didn't need the switch, but I already had it setup so I used it anyway.
Been through 2 vacuum pumps on my truck.. On both occasions, no lights came on in the dash. Not to say they aren't supposed to, but mine didn't. The e-brake light does work right on my truck too.. Vacuum pump is a 30 minute swap though.
Yea better fix it tonight while your ar home. You would hate to get stranded away from home with no brakes like i did, 20 miles from home and some sketchy brakes is the least fun i have had in my truck.

I've been driving it all weekend with essentially no power brakes, I'm not too worried about it you just need to be aware of it so you don't slam into someone.

Having a 5 speed helps a little too. I don't like downshifting stock autos.. It doesn't feel right when you do.. At least none of the stock E4ODs or 4R100's I've driven felt good manually downshifting. lol
