A few weeks ago my '03 CC's front door latch decided to intermittantly quit latching. While I was out of town, my dad opened up the door and greased everything up. Before lubricating, he was able to re-create the problem, and was not able to afterwards.
Last week it happened again, and this weekend I wasn't able to get it to close. I now have a ratchet strap btwn the two front doors and I'm climbing in from the back and driving w/ the strap in place!
So last night I pulled the door panel off and played around and got things working for the most part.
When I stopped playing yesterday it would not latch if I opened it with the inside handle. However, if I used the outside handle, it would latch 99% of the time.
This afternoon when I went for a ride, it wouldn't latch no matter what I did.
WTF?
Any ideas?
Any clue what kind of vehicles that I can look for a new latch in the junk yard? ('03 F250, CC, FX4, V10)
Well, if its anything like the lower door latches in suicide doors on my 02 you can pull the latch mechanism apart by grinding the rivet heads off with a small die grinder. There is a very simple latch with a small spring behind it. If this spring breaks it will not get pushed forward to hold the door latch itself. Or at least as I found on my doors.
