I have a late 99 F350 with an automatic trasmission. My trans. temp. has been running around 150. When I was pulling my boat back from the lake Saturday night it got to 195. I have hauled some about 2500 lbs in the back of the truck without the temp getting above 160, but this was my 1st time towing. Checked transmission fluid Sunday and it was at the add line. If I understand right the late 99 super duty has a transmission fluid cooler built in some where. Is 195 considered high? If so could the fluid level be the problem? Do I need to look into a mod to lower temps?

Reason: spelling
I am assuming you have a real gauge? And are measuring at the pressure test port?
195 is not dangerously high. Sustained 225+ starts to make me nervous. 250 for more than a few minutes is reason to pull over and let her idle.
Fluid level was not directly related.
195 is nothing to be alarmed about. However, if your average temp is rising (Ie, used to tow XYZ trailer at 150 and now tows XYZ trailer at 195 in same conditions) then obviously keep an eye on it. If you get above 200 look into some things to improve temperatures. Also a fluid change can help, if the old fluid is bad as it wont be as good at transferring heat. Once you hit 225 I would seriously consider mods.
Remember, mods are like a bandaid in this situation, if your temps are rising something is wrong and your truck is trying to tell you something. Dont just slap on a 6.0 cooler and call it good, find out what caused the raised temps.

150+- is normal for daily driving and I don't have anything to compare to for towing. The fact that it was 75* out side and 1:00 AM is what alarmed me about the temp. Am preparing to change fluid. By preparing I mean saving up for a good synthetic, that *****s high $$. I have had truck a year and think fluid was changed when the previous owner rebuilt tranny a year before that. I know the guy well and he wouldn't put any $$ into a good fluid.

I agree, try to keep it below 200*.... over 225* = new fluid time.
