Ever consider another possibility?
Have a vindictive X-wife or a enemy?
More than 1 engine has been ruined by the midnight raid that drains 4 qts or more into a bucket, then puts the plug back in, and drives off to wait, watch and snicker about their evil deed.

You didn't read that here.

The numbers you are quoting are for the 2-valve PI-head V10 in the E-series vans from 2000 and up.

LS1 Camaros EASILY make 30+ more HP with headers and exhaust. Don't take my word for it, though; ask people who own them. I guess Gale Banks is full of it, too.
Yes I am very familiar with the 03-04 32 valve "terminator" motors.
And not that Gale Banks "is full of it, too" but real world results vary tremendously from the controlled testing parts developers do.

You WILL notice a difference with PI. The 275/410 figures are correct for NPI.
And I wholeheartedly recommend Mike's tunes. I can't see how the stock '99 tune could be anything but worse on a PI engine.

Other tips:
Don't pull the cab - no need. Pull the fan and radiator and front bulkhead so you can stand between engine and bumper and you can get to everything quite easily.

I just used my original '99 fuel rails (with new o-rings) and wiring harnesses so I didn't have to bother disconnecting anything. Worked dandy! I recall the PI intake used two less (or more?) bolts to anchor the fuel rail, but I just used what lined up and it worked fine.

The PI intake should have an EGR block off plate which you can remove and install your EGR (if you were lucky enough to have one).

You will need to modify one heater hose. On the '99, one hose is 5/8" and goes between firewall and back of intake manifold. The PI intake has a 3/4" bung on the front. A foot of 5/8 hose and a foot of 3/4 hose coupled together with a reducer solves that....
Thank you!

I certainly plan on getting a tune from 5-star. They seem well respected around here and seem to know their stuff from the threads I've read.

The engine I bought is complete minus the wiring harness and accessories. Can I use the PI rails and injectors? Is the engine harness different on the newer engines or something?

I have EGR but don't plan on re-installing it. It wasn't functioning properly (it was throwing an "insufficient flow" code on a regular basis) and I don't really want to spend a bunch of money repairing it.

I think I will probably just pull the motor out of the front like Cooper24 did. My Mustang is currently tying up my lift, anyway.

Thanks again!

I did not look close enough at things to know if the PI fuel rail would have connected up.... The intake I had came from a junkya.... err, recycler and they had slashed the fuel lines and bent the rail during removal. So I just went with my '99 injectors (actually, brand new replacements) and rail.

If the EGR was not working, then probably not worth fussing with. Probably less than 1 mpg penalty to give it up.

Tell Mike if you are going to leave off the EGR. I believe he can modify software to prevent CEL with no EGR.

So, I need to make sure that I understand all of this. The PI heads motor will work in the 99 without altering the PCM. I got a PI motor for free and just sent it off to machine shop to fix the burnt valves and clean the block. I do not want to spend all this money to then tell the wife 'oh, by the way I need a tune.' Well, i do want that but not that way. I do have an egr and it is working fine but the motor is not and I am fed up with good money after bad. Hence the newer motor going to machine shop. I do know that the injectors are different but mine (i think) are fine.
