I'm going to be removing my bed within a few weeks to use POR 15 on the frame rails. I'm sure its a pretty simple straight forward job- bed bolts, tail light wiring, and fuel filler necks, but any write ups or anything I should watch for?
Never removed a bed so I'm just lookin for any heads up or any tips and tricks.
Thanks
get the mig welder out and tack weld the heads of the bolts to the bed. when you put the impact on them they will want to push up and roll and then you'll never get them out.
Drop the rear bumper off the truck, disconect the bed wiring harness at the rear most x-member, undo any add on wiring or accessories from bed (racks, cap, lights), use a good impact gun w/ deep socket, long extension bar, & 1/2" swivel joint, remove the filler neck hdw & the hose clamp holding neck to underside of bed. I use a torch to heat the nuts till they are cherry red & zip them off one @ a time & have a garden hose on hand to put out anything that lights up. Pry bars are good to hold stuff out of the way while you torch nuts, and at least 2-3 friends to lift bed off once its loose/unbolted & something to put it on so its not on ground. May as well do fuel tank mods while beds off too.
