hellwig install issue (maybe)

Well I just installed the rear swaybar and all went fine. It took us about 2 hrs from start to finish. I checked all the clearances and everything looked fine. After taking it around town for the afternoon I checked them all again. It appears the bar shifted towards the driver side. I only have 3/4" from the bar and the passenger side of the pumpkin. I loosned it all up this morn. and moved it back but it went right back to the spot it was before. After looking at it it almost seems like the bar is about an 1" short. any ideas? Will this hurt anything? Its a 2000 2wd

The shifting is odd. Did you have the 7643 part number?

Is one of your links bent toward one side when it is shifted?

I've had mine for years, and it does the same thing. It's actually worn a divot on the passenger's side of the rear diff. Originally I thought it was because the shock mounts weren't on the axle pins right, but I fixed that a couple of years ago, and it's still shifted over some. It rarely rubs anymore, so I stopped worrying about it.

Just installed mine yesterday. Bar is shifted a slight bit to one side and hard up against the rear diff. Doesn't seem right but unless there is a defect that's the way they are. Doesn't appear right but EX sure handles better. Was actually able to take my hands off the steering and it tracked straight going 75 down the "I"...

Mine seems to be right where I put it a couple weeks ago. Also a 2000 2WD.

Stay tuned I think I will call Hellwig today and see whats up.

Did you guys cut your links to mount your bar level or did you just leave the links the way they came? I havent cut mine yet and the clearance between the speed sensor and the bar is good. But if I raise the bar to be level and would cut the link then it starts getting real close. I dont want to smash the sensor so I may be leaving them stock lenghth.

I left my link the way it is stock. It does appear to be too long as it is distorting the bushings. If I were to shorten the links, it would make it worse. I think the sway bar ends are a bit too long.Name: Link.jpg

Bergy,

Try loosening the bolt that holds the end links to the frame
and the nuts that hold the sway bar to the end links.

Then slide the sway bar on the axle to get it centered.
THEN tighten up all the nut/bolts.

I found I tightened 1 side first before I noticed the sway bar
wasn't centered - and had the bar slid towards one side.

I couldn't get the bar to slide back w/o loosening up the nut/bolts
and setting the bar in the center first.

Hopefully, mine will stay in the center, I just drove 1300 miles
over the weekend I'll check it tonight and check.

Good point, Misky6.0. When I installed mine, I left everything loose as I mounted it. Once all the parts equalized, I tightened all nuts to the proper torque.

I learned this from all those Ikea furniture I assembled.

I did that and all looked good again. Went for another test run and it slid back again. I just goy off the phone with the head tech at Hellwig and he asked me to check the overall length of the bar. He thinks it may be either a 250 bar or maybe just the wrong length. I will have to get the measurment when I get home. I also explained to him if I cut the spacers that the bar will sit too close to the sensor. He's puzled too. He did say the if the shock mounts are rotated down to far that it would cause this problem but that shouldnt be the case concidering I put them back on the locating pin.

Well I had my wife check the measurments and it is the excursion bar. FYI 39" center to center is the X and 36" is the f250. Called Hellwig back and he wants me to take some pics and send them to him.I'll keep you posted

Just a thought, did you mount your links on the outside of the frame on both sides?
