Stated to get some noise from the area of my fan belt and water pump. Belt seems reasonably tight. Starts making noise after running for about 5 minutes. Gets louder under load. Any how to's on diagnosis and steps for water pump change out if necessary.
I would consider the idler or tension pulleys to be the most likely culprits.
Is there moisture coming from the weep hole of the pump?
If you do change the pump I highly recommend changing the aforementioned pulleys.
Needless to say a new belt is part of the job.
Remove the belt by levering the tension pulley to create slack in the belt and slip it off of the idler pulley.
Then give the various components a wiggle to try and determine if there is any play to them.
Ok, so after removing the belt the noise continues. Local shop says it is a transmission pump problem. Not a problem with water pump, belts, pulleys or tensioners. Can replace the transmission pump for $1,800 or can rebuild the transmission for $3,600. They expressed concern that the pump only fix might not last if debris in transmission from failing pump exists.
Possibly this is true since I was getting some metalic vibration for the last several months and I assumed it was the inspection plate sheild for the bell housing. Then the noise became more pronounced and sounded like belt noise or water pump squealing when motor is under load and warm
Any thoughts on diagnosis and price for rebuilt transmission?
