Hey guys, wasnt there a thread a long time ago on here that had a comparison of all kinds of engines and their weights and sizes? Our old computer crashed and we got a new one and we didnt get all our old favorite sites transferred over. I had something I was lookin for and cant find it. I was tryin to do a weight comparison between a 429 and 4.6. I found out a 429 weighs about 720lbs and a 4.6 weighs about 500lbs, but some of the sites are differing in their numbers. Plus I am goin to change the intake on the 429 from cast iron to aluminum that should lighten it up some.
Thanks for the help if you guys know of any sites.
Thanks guys, I was thinkin that I was lookin at around 720lbs for a 429. And around 500 for a 4.6? They seem to disagree alot about the 4.6's. Anyway, around 200 lbs difference and on the subframe of a '95 Merc that had a '4.6 if I end up moving the engine back it might just work out about right on the weight. That's why I wanted to know about the weight difference. Although I do plan on movin the engine back anyway, cause my '56 is a bit nose heavy and I dont want to have that problem with a big ole 429.
The data this guy collected is from all kinds of sources, so not all the engines were in similar states of "dress". Some had flywheels, some had flex plates, etc. I've heard the difference between a SBF and a SBC reported as more like 50 lbs on an even basis.
How does a Corvair engine weigh the same as a Vega? lots of head-scratchers there....
Wow! I didn't realize that a small block Ford was so light, dang near 100lbs lighter than a SBC

Yup, then put on aluminum heads on a roller 302 and you get a very light engine that's up to 360 cubic inches. But it's the Windsor 351 that takes the cake for cubes to pounds. Stoke that bad actor to 434, put some aluminum CHI 3V heads and a Clevor intake and you're talking about some nice power to weight ratios.

Yea, I've seen several engine weight charts with several different weights...
...I guess its best to just average them out...LOL
