The trans in my truck shifts great, fluid is correct, my question is when i go from park to either drive or reverse, or reverse to drive, it goes into gear really hard and the truck jumps, it is like the idol is to high, or you rev it up and go into gear. The idol is not to high, set correct. You have to have your foot hard on the brake or it will jump when ya put it into gear. Any ideas? Thanksk for any help.
That can probably be attributed to to play somewhere in your truck's drive line. Like ken selvy said, worn out u-joints could cause this. Also if you have a locker (such as a detroit) in the rear end that could make it behave this way.
If your pinion does not have excessive backlash and your u-joints appear to be fine, it could be that there is too much backlash in the transmission. If you just rebuilt the tranny, and it's behaving this way now, I would bet that is what has happened. If the tranny is really old or has gotten hot, there is a possibility you have some broken internal parts or thrust washers throwing the backlash out of wack.
I am by no means a transmission expert, I'm just telling you what I know from my own personal experience. So best of luck to you.
