Hey yall I have a ? I need some help with. My '73 302 will cut off when you put in into gear but if it in park at idol it will run smooth for hours and not cut off and you can rev it up and stuff and its still good but as soon as you put in gear (drive or reverse) it starts running funny and when you go to move if you dont give it a lot of gas it will shut off. I have a feelin it might be something simple that I'm just over looking but I could use some advice on this one. Thanks!

 

At what rpm's does the engine idle at? You may have to raise the idle.

 

Start looking at the vacuum advance and carb dashpot if it has one. Had a 76 302 that I never did figure out. Disconnected and plugged vacuum advance on carb and it ran perfect. Gave up and ran it that way till I sold it.

 

Well I wound up taking the carb apart again and i had a lot of rust in it from the tank. I guess it got sloshed around when we were fixin a gas line. Now I've got two fuel filters on it.
