Uneven idol?

My superduity is having an uneven idol issue! It is hardly noticeable. At idol it will slightly surge up and down in rpm and noise, just the slightest hum and if u look at the tach you can see the needle moving just barely, mabe a quarter or so of the thickness of the needle. So far I just noticed it when warm. Am looking to see if anyone would have any ideas what this could be and what I can do to fix it? Otherwise it runs great. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!!!

Did you take the truck in for the cps sensor recall ? If so, it is probably grey.. here is a picture of a dual alternator set up but the cps is located approximately above and over to the right of the lower alternator on the front of the engine.. You can see it by crawling under the front of the engine and looking up behind the drive belt.

Mine did exactly as he describes from the day the put the gray cps in Feb. Just a slight miss. Several months later, I changed it to the black one troubleshooting something else and the miss is gone.

Other possibilities for idle fluctuations can be IPR sticking slightly or faulty ICP sensors. Oil quality, as well as fuel quality. Some people has stated that there is a slight skip with the grey CPS installed.

i had the exact same issue...not sure which mod fixed it though...it went away after i installed new injector orings, 910 valve springs and while the injectors were out we soaked them in diesel kleen. i think it was solved with the oring job, but cant guarantee that. now my truck idles 100% smooth. i chased this issue for like 6 months. i also have a black cps...that didnt fix it when i installed it.

ya thats what I'm starting to think also. Did yours start to get a little fuel knock when it started to idle rough?

I checked and I think my cps is grey(kinda dark last night). Cps never touched while I owned it. I have only had the truck since April and don't remember it idling like this until a week or so ago. I am due for an oil change (6000 mi) and a fuel filter (12000 mi) . I took my daughter to the Wisconsin dells this weekend(spent all my money) drove 540 miles on less than a tank of fuel, so my mileage is pritty good aprox 21mpg in 80e on my DP . Mabe try oil change and fuel filter?

i tried everything also...after speaking to Clay to order my Black CPS, he said there were a lot of issues that can cause that. i just know from experience, mine was fixed with the work we did in May. the injector oring job isnt that bad, a little intimidating, but a simple job. i did mine because my fuel filter was black as coal, changed it, and within 300 miles, black again. had oil getting into the fuel, wasnt sure which injector/oring, but a bunch of them looked bad. do the oil/filter change and see what happens because they are the easiest and cheapest. just giving something to think about....good luck
