I've got one on my Ranger that i'll send to anyone interested. I dont know why i have a trans cooler on a stick shift Ranger...
I dont know the dimensions til i get it out, and i've never seen it hooked up to anything has a foot of hose on each side just tied together), but youd probably want to flush it out before you use it...
i know it's a lot of bread.if you search around though you can find a big cooler, and a fan sold separately.just run a toggle switch to make her spin.
it's the ONLY way your going to keep the C6 under 200 degree's when screaming up them hills...scratch that....i mean them monster mountains that you find under WOT in 2nd gear at 25 MPH or lower for such long periods with that heavy monster.
don't forget a trans temp gauge.
did i forget to tell you that im shocked you didn't have a trans failure on your last journey lol.
one things for sure.them C6's sure are tough mothers.
did you know i rebuilt one of those suckers (many years ago now) and i coupled it with a 2800 stall TC behind a heavily cammed and carbed 400.....my first impression was; "these parts shouldn't be legal".
25mph was WOT in 1st gear actually
I'll say like you, i'm VERY surprised she didn't cough or complain one bit!
I do flush it every single year, and drop the pan every 2 years, and every time I flush it, the fluid is always brown/ish dark red, but never did smell burnt witch is good.
Still operates and shifts great, like any good working C6! And it's never had a cooler on it for 150k "towing" miles!
But that's why it's about time I add one, to save what's left of it.
I wasn't planning on a tranny gauge...this year anyways but if I was to put one, where would I put it? Drill a hole in the tranny pan?
I have a Tru-Cool MAX Fin & Plate cooler (part # 4739). This thing flat out rocks.
It's HUGE for one. Measures 8 1/2 x 22 x 1 1/4. It has a GVW rating of 40k and a BTU rating of 45k. Also came with a "cold weather bypass valve" (basically allows the trans to get up to temp before actually cooling it). I have my cooler installed after my factory one, so the external is bypassed till the temp reaches 180 degree's, then the bypass opens and allows the external cooler to work.
Hey Manic Mike, how hard is the Tru-Cool to install? Looking to install on a 96 250 powerstroke.
Pretty simple, I mounted the cooler first then ran my lines. It's very simple. The only hard part is figuring out which line is the return line BACK to the trans after it's been cooled.
I just bought a Hayden thats rated for 30k gvw for about $70at the advance auto, it too is a plate cooler. Threw the box away yesterday so I don't have a number though
