I've got a lot of slop in my rear gears and I'm looking for a good set of new gears for the trick at a reasonable price Im planning on going 4:30 or 4:56 ice been wanting to change my gears for some time now I just didn't plan on this soon. What's your opinions? I'm gonna swap out the front and rears.
with 36" tires go with the 4.30's. I have 37" tires and that's what I plan on doing at some point. Several people on here with 37's run 4.30's with nice results
WHat about brand of gears? Yukon? Something else? Sorry for the thread hijack, but I am planning to regear also and this is a question I have never seen asked.

No problem that what I was asking sorry if it was unclear. I'm/were looking for a good set of gears that won't break the bank but will stand up to the punishment that these truck see on a daily basis. My truck is my DD but is torture tested often on pavement and off
Off-topic, kind of...what is a 36x14.5 or 40x14.5 when expressed as say a 235/75R16 tire (which I know translates to 235 mm wide x 176mm sidewall height x 16" rim). If I had that info, I could tell you RPM's at any speed for the 4.30 or 4.56 gears (plus you would be schooling me ). So what does each number (36 and 14.5) indicate? I'd guess that the 14.5 indicates inches across the tread and 36 indicates the height of the tire???
G2's is what I would go with for the rear, and Dana's for the front. The G2's are made by Genuine Gear. IMHO would go with 4.30's with a 38". With 4.30's in the rear on my truck and a 36.47" tire I'm doing 66mph at 2k. I'm going to go to a 38 when these where out.

If I got my math right, you'd be pulling 1890 with the 38s and 1795 with the 40s.

Alright...do you have the tire width for the 38 & 40's and the aspect ratio between the tread and the sidewall? I'll check the numbers that akaFrankCastle got with the web page calculator against my spreadsheet version.
