MAD AS HELL!!!! 4.6 Swap

My engine finally laid down on me after 300,000 miles, no problem w/that. I called a salvage yard & the guy told me he could have me a 4.6 in no time. After a month in a rental car he finally has me an engine. I go to pick it up & he makes a big deal out of how difficult it is to find a Windsor engine. I take the long block ome only to find that the engine I pulled outta my truck is a Romeo!!! Now the problem, I've done some research & find that I need a different flywheel & valve covers. My question now is will the '01 intake from my Romeo going to fit the '99 Windor, it's PI heads. What about the motor mounts? Can anyone tell me what other problems I'm gonna have before I get there? Please help!!!

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you're gonna be OK with what you already found.

The major differences in Romeo vs. Windsor has to do with the timing cover, and some timing chain stuff (?). If you have a complete long-block, I think you're going to be OK from this point.

Are both motors PI headed?

Yes, both have PI heads. THe problem I'm having now is on the Windsor the crank has an 8 bolt attern where the flywheel bolts up. My Romeo had a 6 bolt pattern. I've ordered 3 different flywheels for a '99 F-150 4.6L Windsor w/an automatic and they are VERY different. They look like what a standard trans would bolt to. They all have a machined surface where it looks like a cluch disc would mate to & are at least 3 times heavier. I looked near the starter for a casting # but can't find one. There's a casting # on the opposite side at the front that is F75E-6015 CA. Also when I order a belt tensioner for the '99 engine it looks the same as the one that my Romeo has. Looking at the timing cover where I believe the belt tensioner would go it has an alignment pin hole & only one bolt hole in the center to mount it. I'm at my wits end & need some help.

No auto flexplates should have a machined surface on them, Pioneer part number FRA-438 has an 8 bolt pattern and is for an auto trans, Autozone has that brand, hope this helps.

I hope you're not telling the places you order them from you want flywheels. Flywheels are for manual transmissions, flexplates are for autos...

Do you only have one yard around you? When I first starting to call the yards, they would ask for the engine VIN code, which would have told you which engine you have.

This web site is a great reference on the differences between the 4.6L engines: Rebuilding The Ford 4.6L: Engine Builder

I think if you are doing a complete engine, then you have no problems. It is the components that do not always interchange.
