hi um my tailgate window in my bronco will not move i checked the power wires and tried to c if it was stuck but nothing im not sure if any one has any ideas they would be very appreciated
Before you go tearing everything apart......If the window is down and you can open the tailgate, look at the two jamb thingys that stick out. If either is missing the plastic insert, then there is likely your problem. If you need to (just for a quick fix) you can wrap duct tape around them until you can get the plastic pieces. They are in most part stores branded as HELP.
I dealt with this issue and it drove me crazy why the window would sometimes work then other times it wouldn't, till it finally wouldn't anymore. I had to pull the motor to get the window down to see that the above was the issue.
Check the RED LINK in my signature for more details on dealing with tailgate window issues. I also have wiring diagrams and exploded drawings of the tailgate internals in my gallery. If you can hear the motor moving while the key switch or the dashboard switch is engaged, there is a good possibility that the Delrin pins in the gear-head have shattered. These can also be found in the "HELP" section of most parts stores. If there is no motor noise and you are concerned that the motor may not be your issue, check for damaged of frayed wiring in the section of harness the runs between the gate and the jamb.
As 8996 mentioned, make certain that the driver's side latch ON THE GATE is closing fully when you close the gate. Sometimes giving it an extra push will help. There is a safety interlock on that latch that keep the window from moving with the gate open. So if the latch does not fully engage, the motor will not drive the window up or down.
I recently fixed my gate. Window was falling down so I knew the gearbox was bad. Changing that still didn't fix it. I closed the driverside latch with the gate down and tried again, nothing. Removed the taillight and inspected the connector and found corrosion on the wires coming out of the plug-in. I found a used set of wires from another bronc and now everything is working fine. If you "probe" the wires, I recomend brushing some liquid electrical tape on the puncture, or seal the puncture with some silicone. Last thing you want inside the wires is moisture and salt. I suspect this is what caused my wire failure.
you can also check the switch. sometime the contacts in the switch fail to connect. just take the dash trim loose and take the switch loose. use a small flat head screwdriver to remove the cover off of the switch. you can also use the screwdriver to operate the switch in the absence of the rocker. be careful not to ground out on any other metal inside the switch. if this works you just need to find a new switch.
