Hi guys, I am new to this forum. I bought a 96 Bronco XLT 2 months ago. and the car quit on me few days ago. It not start. When i start the car i only heard 1 click noise. The interior light is fine, no dim. I have replaced a new starter and battery. The Alternator has tested at autozone and it show good. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Bronco so i can fix it. Thanks
Try the starter solenoid, it's the black cilindrical part by the passenger's side fender, near the battery (will have several wires attached). There are two threaded terminals coming out of it, use a screwdriver to create a bridge and jump the start, if it does so, you can start the truck that way until you buy a new solenoid and replace that one.
Thanks for the help. By the way I forgot to mention it that the voltage gauage on the dash shows the voltage is low too. Do you know what will cause the reading low?
I usually get a low reading when the engine isn't on. Anyway you could try cleaning other contacts. I just remember! there is a small wire coming from the starter (i think it's a ground). The clicking noise probably is the starter solenoid trying to engage, so it should be ok. That little wire has a small un-protected connector that gets all kinds of dirt, until it doesn't work anymore (look for the wire near the starter). Clean it and try to start the truck. It could even be possible that it wasn't plugged right once the starter got replaced and it got disconnected.
BATTERY CABLES AND CONNECTORS!!! lol I had the same issue, drove truck to work just fine then bam, time for lunch and no start just one click. I just replaced the connectors and started great no issues. Also if you have the pretty colored red/black connectors, make sure you grind off the paint where the cables clamp down. I had bought a new set and still no start, then realized that they apparently clear coated the entire connector. Ground that off and it was new again
That's excatly what happen to me..the car die on my lunch break..i jumped start it, it start but after work i start the car then doesnt start. I got the black and red terminal from autozone. I replaced my positive cable only because the negative side seem fine. I definitly will go check the starter solenoid tomorrow. And if i have the battery connect and leave it overnight..next morning i will hear some electric ticking noise inside the car close to the steering wheel. I dont know what's wrong with it, i never heard of it before when the car still running, since it die then i heard it, and have to disconnect the battery to stop the ticking noise
Get under the truck and check that little ground i told you about (the one in the starter), it could be just loose and that's what's preventing the truck from starting. Also, clean the battery terminals and tighten them again (the battery is fresh, but it could also be loose and not doing a good contact).
