Can oil cause my truck to regen more frequent? The reason I ask is I switched over to Valvoline Premium Blue and now my truck regens every 200Kms. The truck used to regen every 500 plus. I noticed the truck regen more since the oil change.I have been tracking the regen since November 2010 and now since the oil change they are more frequent.
I don't know, but my guess would be "yes". As far as I understand it, the DPF filter collects diesel particulates in the exhaust and burns them off. A cleaner burning diesel engine would have less particulates to burn off, yes? I normally use Rotella synthetic.
I went to Firestone in Vacaville, CA. We pulled our fifth wheel here so I could get a job (I build power lines). The truck had reached just over 5,000 miles from the last oil change and at the end of a 1900 mile cross country pull, I took it to them for an oil change.
They originally were going to charge me $97 for an oil change and rotate the tires and inspect the truck. I realized that was too cheap and confirmed that I wanted Rotella. That price was for regular oil. He looks it up on the computer screen and makes a couple of phone calls. They were going to charge me $42 per gallon! Like hell. I did my own oil change. I couldn't find more than one gallon of Rotella synthetic at the four places I stopped so I bought Mobil One 10-40 high mileage synthetic oil, a Fram oil filter and a drain pan from Wally World. Just over $130.
I got regens at around 400 miles using the Rotella. I got my first regen the next day after changing to Mobil One. Haven't gotten one since but that was less than 100 miles ago. I'll be paying attention to the mileage between regens using Mobil One.
you may want to stick to ford oil filters. the after market cap is lower and doesn't keep oil in the injectors when not running. this is from a ford mechanic friend of mine

Did you also happen to get the latest updated flash 11B23 I think it's called. A number of folks on here including me see to have more frequent regens since the update.
I am not sure where I said I was "NOT" using ford filter. I am using the ford filter just not there oil!!!! Trust me I dont cheap out on my truck. Yes I have the new flash, and I think that may be the problem. I called my dealer, they will have a look at it on Friday for me. Not sure if they have the up date to the up date or not...and if it fixes the regen problem or not...Wish I never did the new flash..
Senix I think you are talking to the other guy that posted..??

Yeah, went back and read it...it was the other guy...Glad you are not!
2010, are you using different fuel? I have increased regens when using standard 40 cetane stuff. I consistently get slightly better mpgs and least regens using Chevron or Shell fuel. They're purportedly rated at 45cetane or better.
As long as your oil is CJ-4, it 'should' be ok. I get both 5W20 and 15W40 MC oil from Wally's for my 5.4 and SD. They're typically cheaper than everything else to boot.
FWIW, I can't justify the expense of using synthetics if I'm changing it out every 5K due to fuel dilution. I'm consistently getting 16qts coming out when only 15 go in
I've got about 2700miles on the original 11B23 flash... so far no changes in regen behaviour that I can see... and I track all of them!
The other thing is, if the regens don't complete on their own, it'll restart after a short while and seem like they're more frequent.
I always get my gas at the same station. I think it is related to the Ford flash that was done a month or so ago. It has made all the sensors more sensitive, causing it to regen more. I am not sure if the new " update" to the update will fix it!!
