I just swapped out the Holley carb that was in the 71 F250 I recently bought. I put an Autolite 2100 back in.
I need the stud that goes up through the air cleaner lid. I have lots of them around for 66 and earlier trucks that have oil bath air cleaners but none for a later truck. My trip to the u pull it today was fruitless. The stud that's in there now has a 1" stack of washers below the nut.
Anyone (Bill) know if it's still available anywhere?
If anyone has one sitting around I'd love to buy it.
Now Bill, you know you can't use threaded rod if you want to use the proper nut on top of the air cleaner.
Yes, a Ranchero counts. This is going in a 1971 F250 with a 360. I should have stated that earlier.
I need the shorter one. (the one out of a running driving truck)
And a picture of the air cleaner. (please ignore the messy engine, I just got it running yesterday)
As they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words. I wonder who "they" is???
Hmm never seen a Holley carb get better mileage then a Autolite or any other carb..
But can be tune or dialed in pretty good if you know what your doing. Change pump cam, jet it down. Change pump shooters. Learn to read the spark plugs. All help and may get close to or same mileage as a Autolite 2100. my 2 cents
orich
All of the auto parts stores sell air cleaner studs. Just need to no what thread pitch yours is. They're usually universal and can be cut to fit. Will work fine unless you're doing a Concours resto on this thing.
Post #4: Did I say to use threaded rod? No. I was responding to post #3.
I had a feeling you knew threaded rod would not work.
So what is the difference between above part # and 371845-S2? Not that it really matters at this point. I got the number from my local guy that claims he is never wrong. I think he needs some lessons from you!

Ask your 'whiz-bang' local guy who is never wrong, where he got this 371845-S2 so-called Ford part number from.
It's not listed in any Ford Passenger Car or Truck Parts Catalog, you wanna know why?
I have a couple parts sitting and waiting to go back that he ordered wrong.
Oh well, we have Toyota Scions in our fleet at work. They are all the same color. Always have been. Many of the body parts come pre painted. I can't tell you how often we get the right part in the wrong color. On one of our Toyota pickups they ordered a door lock assembly three times before they got the right one.
One problem is people just don't give a damn about the quality of their work. The other problem is none of this stuff is stocked at the dealer, it's all at a local hub. The parts guy can't walk back to a shelf and look at the item and hold it in his hand, he just looks at a picture on the computer.
Yup, you need the double ended 5/16-1/4 bolt. I have a few here, I should have a short one if you can't source one locally.
If all else fails, take a 5/16x2" bolt, drill and tap the center of the head 1/4-20, and then use one of those aftermarket air cleaner stud kits.
