Dealer phoned me, the warranty company wants them to pull 2 injectors and take pictures and send them in. WTF, can you pull an injector and physically see a problem, especially if its stiction?
170K Miles
I have exactly the same problem. Slightly rough for 2 to 3 seconds when cold starting then smooths out but no power till it has warmed up.
I am using a 15W30 oil. I am assuming that changing to a 5W30 oil will help and will do so when I next change the oil. In meantime wil try some revEx for the balance 1.5K miles left before the change and report back.

I'm no expert (lol) but I know theres a simpler way to check for stiction. As I said earlier, the spool valve is the top part of the injector, so i don't think you can can just look at it and see. There is this device thingamabob that times injectors and can actually show how many milliseconds each injector sticks for (think bismic showed me this...) Synthetic oil, rev-x, and lighter oil can help mask the problem but will not solve it. If that don't help, then your injector(s) are too far gone (replace them )
Has I said, its normal, but It does run a touch rough at 22-25 when having this condition though. I definately get the white/blue smoke when I get above 2k RPM.
EGR cooler has been replaced before as well a couple of years ago.
Don't know what EOT vs ECT is? Would this not be a test the dealer would do?
So is Stiction what I think it is? Basically the injectors are sticking? If that is the case, shouldn't it be covered under my warranty?
Thanks for the help!
YOU have 1 or more copper crush rings on the injector leaking.
When you start it cold after still hours you get whiteish smoke FUEL.
When engine is ran up to 2000-2500 it stumbles a little and you get smoke blueish smoke out the tail pipe even when engines HOT.
The smoke from start up is from the fuel leaking into the cylinder once the engine cools down.
The stumble and smoke at high RPMS is from the cylinder pressure entering the fuel system and misfiring your injectors.
The low power cold is caused by engine being cold and and more cylinder pressure entering the fuel system once the engine heats up thing expand and the clearence tightens up enough that your fuel system starts to have an equal fight over the cylinder pressure entering the system.
throw a fuel gauge on it.IF the fuel pressure is jumping 5-10psi then its a simple fix
UPDATE:
Finally got the truck back to the dealer this week. They pulled 2 injectors and took pictures to warrnety company. Warranty company says there is a carbon deposit on the injectors which is causing the problem and therefore its a maintenance issue. I'm not a mechanic but it would seem to me that this carbon deposit would cause the problem all the time, not just when its cold.
So if i am stuck with just cleaning, is it worth replacing the copper crush rings at the same time as BobsF350 mentions above?
