Hello all,
I have noticed that my radiator has a leak that has been growing more and more.

What are my options for replacement?


And quick side question... If I put an electric fan on my truck will my mileage get better? If so by how much?

There are many aftermarked radiators in both brass and aluminum. Priced from $200-$450. Another choice is to have yours repaired. Just did mine and it was $120.

 

Depends on what type of driving you do. If you regularly drive short trips, the fan won't spin during warmup and can help a bit with MPG's. If you drive alot on the highway (or cruise above 40-50mph regularly), the fan won't need to spin and can also help a bit with MPG's. Don't go thinking you're going to get an extra 2-3 MPG. You'd be very lucky to recoup your investment within a year a two.

 

Mine got shot by a 12 gauge and I had it repaired for $65!!!

so i should take it to a radiator shop and have them take a look at it?

 

That would be my first course of action. If it can't be repaired I would then look into replacing it.

$110 w/ free shipping. Has to be cheaper than any repair and I just bolted one right into my truck.

Your old radiator will probably bring you at least another $30 in scrap.

An electric fan over a mechanical one is worth a few HP. It won't noticeably increase mileage IMO. A happy medium is a clutch fan.

And if you don't have a fan shroud, then I recommend ya get one unless yer in Alaska or Canada.
