SPARK PLUG HELP HANDS DIRTY NEED ADVICE

now that ive got your attention, i got done with my plug swap and one of my cylinders has had a blowout previously.

the plug i took out looked like this

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...6/DSC02917.jpg

i managed to put the thing in a vice and get it apart.
the adapter looks like this
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...6/DSC02916.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...6/DSC02915.jpg

what should i do.
i cant find anything online that looks remotly like what i have.

first i thought about putting it back together with a new plug and putting thread locker on the adapter where it screws into the head, but now im not so sure.

what do you recommend?

wherever it came from it looks like it was made for sparkplugs at least. the inner thread is only at the bottom and its contoured inside to accomodate the plug

TIMESERT ???

That looks like a Timesert plug repair bushing to me. Go to http://www.timesert.com. They make very good products--a lot of people have very good luck with them.

That does not look like a time-sert, if it still fits the head well, I would add red loctite (permanent) and reinstall, you should be fine. Time-sert is an excellent product, that is actually what we install in my shop, but the kit is costly so I don't think it's worth it for a single plug.

The 5.4 is know for bad spark threads, probably been repaired. I agree with the previous. Re-install.

That might very well be the smartest thing to do. I might go another way though; put medium loctite on your spark plug threads and light oil on the adapter just in case you ever need to replace it.

In any case, it looks to be in very good condition, and I don't see why you can't just re-use it.

That is not a timesert. If it is it was not installed properly. The timesert insert is thicker on the bottom. Before you install it it is smaller on the inside threads. During install a special tool is used to open up the inside threads which bends the bottom of the timesert out causing the outside threads to get too big to unscrew. It should bell out on the bottom. I am not sure a plug will even screw into a un-expanded timesert.

When I was still wrenchin' I used that type of insert, can't remember the brand anymore, but they always worked well. I would clean it up and reinstall with permanent locktite, I think originally they used green, but any of the permanent formula's should work. Just make sure that it still screws into the head okay, and use anti seize on the sparkplug.

I found one of those in a spare v10 motor I have. I was fogging cylinders and found that exact same insert. It came out with the plug.

I also had one plug not want to come out at all. I think they epoxied it in. Fortunately I don’t need that motor at the moment. Not sure what to do. On a glued in plug.
