49 F3 Flathead Stalling
My 49 F3 has a 226 flathead with the original 4 speed tranny. It starts right up and runs ok, but as I am approaching a stop sign and double clutching down, the engine dies. It seems if I keep the revs way up it is ok, but that is tough to do when you are trying to stop a big truck that has stock brakes. Any ideas of what I should look at first?

If it only does it when stopping, check your float level.

Yep, check float level......and check around carb for vacuum leaks. Does the truck have a hydrovac? (brake booster) You may have a vac leak there also....

Both you guys were right. I tore down the carb and readjusted the float and the problem seems fixed. I am sure that beside the float I had a few leaks also. Thanks for the advice.
