Drop Axel

Hello Everyone!

I have a 49 F1 that I originally bought just for the flathead. However, since then I have gotten attached to the old girl (Bettie Lou) and have decided to make her into a traditional shop truck.

My first question deals with a drop axel - has anyone bought and installed the drop axel from CPP? I am leaning toward buying an axel and other suspension parts from them and would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.

Welcome to FTE!! Just down the page is a thread similar to your question. The MOR DROP is one source for drop axles. Searching through the threads back a few will result in a few more about them. CPP is a good source for parts.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have searched the site and read many posts concerning dropped axels. However, I did not see one that referenced actually buying and installing one from CPP. Mor Drop is an a great choice, but I would like to buy a new axel if this has been a good experience from one of the members.

Thanks.

mor-drop

I purchased my second axle from Mor-Drop a couple of years ago. It was for a '48 F-1. The first one was in 1952 for my '34 4dr sedan. Same location and the current owner used to work there before he bought the place. Nice old guy and he does a good job. He usually keeps several on hand ready to go.

The properly modified Henry Ford axles are bulletproof in terms of strength and materials, which is not something that can be said of the tubing axles such as CPP is selling. Tubing axles may fine on a light car like an 1800-lb roadster.

Jim,

Thanks for the information. Just one more question concerning Mor-Drop, do you have to send your axel to them - or is their just a core charge?

Thanks.
