thanks , guess i get to rebuild my first fe .
i am going to look for a donor long block as damage to that cylinder wall is deep .
i'll just baby the truck while i rebuild the other in my garage .

can anyone recommend a good book on rebuilding the fe ?

Donor blocks should be easy to find. Ask a local machine shop/engine builder to see how much one would cost already rebuilt. They would have to guarantee it for some length of time. Cut down on time re-doing your truck. Doesn't need t be anything more than a stock motor. 'Stump Pullers' have a lot of power. Why not just go to a 390 since your going to replace it anyway?

i'd like the 390 upgrade , i'll see what i can find and go from there .

360/390 share the same bore (4.05"), the stroke is different (360: 3.50" / 390: 3.78"). You have a 360, you wanna 390? Install the 390's crank, pistons and rods....everything else is same-o same-o.

Some say Steve Christ is the FE guru, some say not, take your choice. His book is on sale at Amazon. I would buy it if I had a FE.
