I don't mean to sound like a total idiot here, but I don't know about these things- So bear with me.
I've got a '66 f-100. The wheels are awful- non-matching, ugly things. I've got 3 of one and 2 of another style... I want to go back to the original, factory style steel wheels.
I found a guy who's parting out a '70 f-100. I know the wheels should fit just fine (5 - 5.5)- But is there any major difference between the wheels I'd find on a '66 vs. the 70? Will the same hubcaps, etc fit?
The price is great, too... He's also got some other parts I need, like the steering wheel (I know it's not the same, but its CLOSE, and CHEAP)...
ill have 3 original 65 f-100 2 wd very soon as they wont fit over the disk brake im installing. i got four but lugs loosened up on one and wallerd the holes . give me a week or so i got to get tires off. if interested.
The only difference will be hub cap mounting. Early wheels have hub cap nubs located on the inner edge of the wheel center, later have the nubs on the outer surface. All will fit, like you said, and all will have approximately 1/2" of offset. If you don't like the ones your local guy has available, any local yard should have them too so that you don't get stuck paying shipping. Stu
1967 and later F100 wheels are outies, so called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section.
1965/66 F100: Some wheels are outies, some are innies, so called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the inside of the wheels center section.
1961/66 F100 innie hubcaps are 9 1/2" O/A diameter / 1965/66 F100 outie hubcaps are 10 1/4" O/A diameter.
Same 3 spoke steering wheel (repro'd in black only by Dennis Carpenter): 1960/63 Falcon/Comet / 1961/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/70 F100/350 / 1966/72 Bronco.
1971/77 & 1978/79 two spoke steering wheels use vinyl horn pads / 3 spoke steering wheel uses either a horn button or a horn ring.
Thanks for the info... I think I'm going to use the 4 with the 'outie' rims, the guy is only 5 minutes from me and is going to paint them up this week with a batch of wheels that he's doing... I also found the hubcaps (10 1/4") nearby, too- And a steering wheel...
Another quick question, though- I've been told that the steering column was replaced, probably in order to add power steering.... Probably with something from the '70s, hence the two spoke wheel-
Will the old style wheel fit?
I'm almost SPOILED by the parts that are available for these things- With my boat restorations, I often have to search all over the country (and WORLD sometimes!) for parts- and often come up empty handed... I've become pretty used to making a LOT of different parts- or making a lot of 'close' parts work!
I've got a similar column from a '70s to early '80s F series. It's automatic but it has the ignition on the column. I noticed that your ignition is still on the dash so I don't know for sure about your column. Anything is possible. Mine looks like it has the same size screw fitting for the steering wheel so I would also guess that yes the original steering wheel will fit. It's going to look good after you install everything.
