So far I`ve managed to get ticks before they got me. Now it`s into West Niles season with the mosquitoes.

Yeah the skeeters are bad out right now. Its well worth it to keep the lawnmowed short.

I`ve got the lawn short but I wish I could drain the big sloughs around here, alot of extra water laying around just perfect for these pests to breed in.

I went and bought a 3 inch trash pump for cheap from an auction and Ive managed to keep the one problem wet spot we have in the area quite low, it sure does help!

I gave up around here, a lot of big sloughs have way too much water to pump and are in a low laying area so there`s no better place for the water to go. Unfortunately alot of trees are in the water and are dying off, sadly we`ll going to lose them.

can anything be sprayed in the bush or tall grass to kill ticks ? I can only cut my grass every long weekend sometimes longer.

I don't think so merc. The best cure is to keep it short.

Mowing 7 acres on my farm, I understand that it can be a very large pain in the behind to have to cut the grass so often to keep it short.

I think that's why my parents have had me cut the lawn since I could walk... they didn't want to!

My son had his yard sprayed when the kids were little and he seemed to think it helped for few weeks.

There has got to be something that you can spray to kill ticks. unfortunately, keeping the grass short by cutting it will not work for me, because I normally only go there once every 3 to 4 weeks. The first time i was there this year was for Canada Day and the grass was over 2 feet tall. It took me 8 hours to cut the ten acres around the house. I noticed that the ticks were so thick that they were crawling up the side of the walls of the garage. so I think there has got to be something to kill ticks. somebody told me about a garlic spray thats supposed to work. I have not tried it yet, but I am going to next year. if anybody knows of a chemical that kills them, let me know. I'm even tempted to burn the grass before spring.
