My truck is screwing up lately and I saw autozone lists the scan gauge 2 on their website and claims to have it in stock. I was thinking about going to get it.
It's my 94 messing up and my under hood diagnostic connector no longer works. Tony reflashed it to MLE1 and put on one of his 4 position chips a few months ago and now the DLC under the dash works but I don't have a scanner. I need one now.
It's weird. In position 2 and 3 I notice it. That is econo and tow. For some reason I never felt it in stock mode. I've had the chip out twice now and it is TIGHT and clean! Tony never did return my phone calls or email about it so I don't know what's up with that.
I drive down our really torn up bumpy road for a mile then get on the highway and in those two positions it surges and bucks real bad till the engine is all the way warmed up. Kinda like power is dropping to one or two injectors momentarily and then back on. I'm almost sure it's a UVCH but I just visually inspected them and don't see anything wrong. I'd like to watch a datastream of injector PW's and hopefully catch the offending injector. That way I won't be throwing parts at it.
Does the scan gauge work on our trucks is my biggest question and can it show all of the normal PID's?
I highly doubt that what they sell at Autozone is the same guage. If you want a Scanguage, buy it from a vendor like Joey or Jim that knows PSD's. The Scanguage that several of us here have is specifically set up for PSD's.
Well it mostly works. It won't pull codes though. It's telling me 74 stored codes which is BS. It won't clear them either. I swung into Ford and borrowed their scanner and there were no codes.
Anyway, about half the gauges work. Most of the ones you can program in for the 7.3 work. I can't get temps off anything but I can see my ICP pressure and duty cycle, injector pw, commanded duty cycle and some other good ones for the high pressure system.
I guess it was worth it. The mpg thing seems to work too after you program it right.
If those guys are selling the one without the extreme gauge option, I think that's what it's called, Then it's about worthless on these trucks.
Got the EOT working. This things pretty neat. It even has settings for alarms and you can record live data off different sensors. Codes still a no go though. Oh well. I don't need them if I have the datastream.
It was the switch for my chip going bad. I fixed it. Took it apart and blew it out and put it back together. Not sure what I did but it's not messing up now.
I had to cut the cable for it in the middle and solder in 4 foot of extra wire to all of the wires so I could put it on my canter console that I made. I also mounted the EGT and water temp gauge in there and the on off switch and **** for my AIC. And a cell phone charger dock, big power inverter that can run just about anything and a 110 ac outlet. Today I was gonna do a couple more charging ports for computer junk too.
