Does any know if a 351m carburated engine from a 1986 f250 4x4 can be exchanged into a 1989 f250 4x4 with a 351m EFI, with little or no problems with swapping parts over. If not does any know where I can find this information. Thanks for the help.
If the motors are the same it would be relatively easy to do, however there was no EFI 351m. There is a EFI 351w, but it is not the same bellhousing as a 351m.
I might be wrong but, I think that the 351m didn't get used after 83 so the '86 might also be a 351w. Let us know and we can go from there.
brian460 is right, ford stopped putting using the 351m in the early eighties. i'd double check your motor to make sure if its a 351M. and if indeed it is you'll have to have to change the bellhousing in the 89 model because it should be a windsor, the 351M using a big block bellhousing bolt pattern and the 351 windsor uses a small block bellhousing bolt pattern.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Dec-02 AT 01:03 PM (EST)]The truck may have a 351w I have not taken a close look at the motors I bought a 1989 with an engine rap and I have a friend with the 1986 351 I want to keep the efi on the truck just basicly take the 86 motor as a long block because it has low mileage the truck is made in canada thanks for the help.
The 351/400M motors have the 460 bellhousing on there. I believe they were made from the mid 70's to the early 80's. That being said, what you wanna do won't work on a Windsor based motor (289/302/351).
Not only that, the intake, heads, etc will not work either. I guy I used to know had a '77 Bronco with a 351M and a C6...it was damn near impossible to get parts for that oddity.
Go take a look at the '86 if it is a 351M it will have the thermostat housing on the block, if is a 351W it will be on the intake. Let us know which one it is.
To another reply I would hardly call a 351m/C6 combo an oddity as is was used extensively from 77 and up in trucks and some cars.
