Hey I have an 85 F250 6.9L and the ignition switch is super loose and will shut the truck off randomly on its own. I want to just install a toggle switch and starter and glow plug buttons but i can't find the wiring diagram. Does anybody here have one for it? Also any little tips and tricks for doing this would be very helpful too. Thank you
agreed. takes about 20 minutes to replace the switch.
i just fixed an 87 with the same problem, the switch actually seperated into 2 halves and fell apart as i was taking it off the column.
I just got done replacing everything in the steering column that had anything to do with the ignition switch. It was intimidating to start with not to mention the truck is my ONLY transportation. I started with the keylock and decided if I was going to go that far I might as well replace everything connected with the ignition switch. I have a tilt wheel so from what I was told that is the biggest problem in changing the switch. Like tjc said the switch is located in the top of the steering column close to the firewall held on by 2 7/16 nuts.
Ya you were right. When i pulled the column the switch totally fell apart. I'm up north in a camp 300 miles from the nearest parts store so i couldn't get a new switch. But i managed to get a button and toggle to work for the time being.
