CCV Re-route Mod Questions

I really hate the oil that accumulates on all the piping but I am not interested in spending a bunch of money to do a CCV re-route. My primary goal would be to eliminate the oil on all the piping to and from the intercooler, etc. so I'm not interested in a mod that only reduces it.

I am willing to vent straight to atmosphere but I do have concerns regarding a negative pressure situation and it sucking debris into the valve cover. I don't even know for sure if a Neg. Pressure situation even occurs on the 6.0's and/or how long it lasts. I have thought about a filter on the end of the hose and/or a one-way valve but wanted to know what others think....

I think there is merit to the idea of taking it to a bung welded onto the exhaust tail pipe but have concerns that the exhaust pressure will cause a back pressure situation....

Would like to weigh the pros and cons of each...Let me know your thoughts.

Trust me......there isn't a negative pressure situation in the crankcase to worry about sucking dirt in and you do NOT want to put any kind of restriction on it. Just run a piece of 1" heater hose from the valve cover to the back of the truck and you'll be good. It needs to vent properly or you'll have problems.

That by far is the easiest and cheapest.

That was what I wanted too hear! Straight too the point, with no gray areas, like all of the other posts I have read about! I am gonna do this, this weekend, when I change my StandPipes, and Dummy plugs!

Many classes of drag racing route the crankcase vent to the header collectors. I think most use a check valve to keep pressure and fire out of the vent tubing leading back to the engine. That would be similar to a PCV valve. There is some scavenging effect but the main reason for a set up like this is to keep oil off the track.

This is the method which I am leaning towards. I couldn't imagine a situation where there would be negative pressure but it doesn't hurt to ask...

How much oil should I expect to see draining from this tube using as a daily driver (50-75miles/day)? Teaspoon a month? Cup a month?

How would you close off the tube going into the intake? ABS Cap? Fill with Silicone? Fill with Mother-in-Law?

Is there a petcock valve for the Intercooler?

Did exactly this type of re-route yesterday. My CAC boots were saturated and I am replacing them with RiffRaff boots as soon as they arrive. $20 for 1 inch hose, an expansion plug and a new o-ring for the outlet elbow.

Riff Raff Boots

If the current ones are not punctured or blowing off whats the point of replacing them? Mine were oily but carb cleaner got 'em clean.

I don't see any point. The newest factory blue elbow hose I got doesn't even "sweat" oil like my old one did and the rest are originals. When I have mine off I clean them with brake cleaner internally and bolt them back on and (knock on wood) haven't ever had a problem blowing one off.

Really there was no need I just wanted to get the red ones. I have had the originals on my 05 blow off only once while towing and the carb cleaner took care of that. Getting new ones is more for my amusement and not for any real performance needs.

I hear ya. I would not call my 05 a P.O.S. but I have spent a ton of $ on EGR delete, new HPOP, upgraded turbo oil lines and drain, upgraded fuel pressure spring, gauges, coolant filter etc etc etc. My truck is a tow vehicle and I need it to last a long time. I cannot afford a new truck so the "little" things like new CAC boots are a luxury but not outrageous either. I did the re-route at 85K. I wish I had done it a lot sooner. I spent all of an hour doing the work. Good luck.

when I did mine, I got a pvc cap with a lip on it and inserted it with the lip out and put a hose clamp on the rubber lip of the intake. I could not push it thru then. If it is not completely secure and it goes into the intake,,,,,,,,,,,,,,goodbye turbo.
