computer?

my truck: 96 f150 5.0 5spd 4x4.

its started about 2 weeks ago running very rich and idling very rough on my way to work, on my way home (10 miles) it used almost a 1/4 tank of fuel. i tryed pullin the codes but the reader just says no link, iv replaced the plugs, wires, dis cap, fuel pressure control moduel, ignition control moduel, fuel pump relay, and the pump in the front tank. then i realized that the fuel pumps are not ever shutting off even with the key on motor off they will continuesly run. then i realized that while he truck is running i i switch to the rear tank (its compleatly empty) it will run just like normal untill it starts starving for fuel so i can switch back to the front it will start running rich again.

a friend said it was most likely the computer, but i wanted to get someones opinion before i replace that, so anyone have any ideas

I think if the computer was bad you wouldn't be able to drive it normally, rich or not. I would recommend double checking everything you already did and maybe unhook the computer and wait a bit then plug it back in.

Does the pumps do the 2-3 second priming, and just never shut off? If so, talk to Bill, aka Subford on here...He is a electronics wiz....

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...tinuously.html Read this link. Do what Subford says to test it but it does sound like a bad computer.

It does sound like a bad computer. That's what they do when they fail.

Would the fuel pumps running like that because of the computer being bad cause it to be running like it is?

I had a problem with the fuel pump running after I shut-off the truck. I smacked the Fuel Pump Relay, not too hard. It stopped, so I figure the relay was stuck.

Is everything else good on the truck? What about the fuel filter?
