No start condition

Ok, have a 5 spd manual and a 5.0 - just replaced the trans and transfer case. I only have about half the clutch pedal - wouldn't bleed down all the way. When I turn key, fuel pump whirrs, but I get nothing at the starter. It's been sitting maybe about 2 yrs, but ran good back then. The electrical connectors there for the clutch master cylinder, 1 - 2 wire connector for the trans and same for the transfer case. Am I forgetting something ? I noticed that light for the transfer case seems to stay lit in 4 wheel low, even though I shift into different postions. Thoughts ?

My first thoughts would be a bad neutral safety switch. Use a wrench or similar to jump the two big terminals on the fender mounted starter relay and see if the starter then runs.

Ok, where is the neutral safety switch located - on a 5 speed ? I'll try the solenoid jumping as well ...

If you look under the dash at the clutch pedal linkage the NSS should be on the pushrod from the clutch pedal going to the masyer cyl.

Ok, I did attach that one, there are about 16 wires give or take attached - correct ? I'll check again and make sure I can't install it 180 degrees off .... Haven't tried to jump the solenoid yet, but will this weekend. My glovebox door doesn't shut tight and the light must have drained down the battery ....

No, there are only 4 wires, I think you are thinking of the ign. switch. Look right at the firewall on the pedal linkage.

Here's an update. I did jump the solenoid and it started. Replaced solenoid - thinking it was bad, but I suspect now the neutral switch may be blocking the starting. I did find a 2 wire connector which plugs into a switch on the drivers side - top plate which holds the shift rods. Will look for that other switch.

One more thought, you indicated the NSS being on the clutch clutch rod going to clutch master cylinder. Yes, there are many wires rather than 4 going to that connector. Seems like if it's bad, would need a new master cylinder ? Starting to think I may have a wiring issue though. My transfer case indicator lamp is not working correctly either. May need a wiring diagram to check normalcy of readings ....

LazyK:

You were correct, jumping those 2 pins worked to make it start normally. Now I just need to free up a brake drum and try to drive down a rough road and hopefully loosen those air bubbles in the master/slave cylinder so my pedal firms up.

Thanks for the help ....
