My 78 F250 has a 351M in it,and it keeps bending pushrods. I just bought it and would like to know what the intake and exhaust valve clearances are supposed to be. Im thinking of buying new pushrods but want to do it right. So I would like to see if anyone could help with clearances and specs for me.
Mine's got stock valve springs and pushrods and a Crane Fireball cam with advertised lift of .484 and .510 and never showed any signs of coil bind.
Is yours got a real lopey idle like a big cam? Maybe too much and the stock springs are binding .... or maybe someone added too many shims under the springs trying to stiffen them up?
Also, have you slowly rotated it bay hand with the valve cover off and made sure the rocker arm isn't bottoming agaist the stud? If a lot of metal is cutr from the head / block, it drops the head and the rocker arms increase in angle at full lift. Might have to get shortened push rods.
