you know what guys... i think this happend because my friend had to borrow the truck, and i told him, "dont let it go empty" i think thats what happend... darn.
Alright guys check it.. I had a friend that was moving out and he needed the truck to haul some stuff. Its kinda my fault cause i didnt fill it, it was half full of fuel. Iam gusseing he was running the truck on E the whole time. After i said not to let it pass the last quarter. And yeah its the same symtoms as stated in one of my previous post.. Truck runs sloppy and blah blah... Pretty much the same thing i said before lol any way.. As of right now i just finished taking the bowl off. The right way as DieselOrings says.. Its setting in the valley but iam waiting till tomorrow to get a 6 point star cause i dpnt have one. Or a crows foot wrench. Which iam guessing is for the filter harness thingy thats inside the bowl. So far so good. I think. I looked in the bowl and it kinda looks like a rotton cookie inside. (but its not a real cookie) maby its from the tank?? Well.. Any thought.. Feel free to let me know. And by the way.. The screen is messed up. Its bent. And clogged a bit. So ill have to order a new one. Thanks a bunch guys.. "with out yall id be clueless"
You think if he ran it to low it may have sucked some shtuff off the bottom and caused problems?
If you are taking out the fuel filter "stem" in the bowl, remember the thread is reversed or backwards (righty-loosey, lefty-tighty). Once you have the bowl out of the truck, you will be surprised as to how much gunk comes out of it. I sprayed mine down real good with carb/choke stuff and realized the bowl was two and a half inches deeper than I thought, lol. Did you say you have a O-ring kit coming? Right now would be a good time to clean up the valley real good and replace all those little hoses and clamps. You will need to need to "C-clamp" to get the "C-clip" back in the underside of the FPR. Once you have it back together we will talk about the FPR shim mod.
What happened to your signature?
Yeah i forgot to save my siggy lastnight.. But i think its officially done.
So yeah i took the bowl off and in the valley it was really dirty. I believe there was bugs.. And it appeard to be kinda oily. But i cleaned it up real good. Heres another quistion.. Would it be smart to also replace the lines from the fpr? And iam gonna replace the lines from the canester to the pump. The black and blue line. And the screen?? Needs to be replaced.. And yeah i think trashed might have got sucked in there when it was running in E.
I would replace what ever you can. As far as the FPR lines go....there isn't any. It bolt right to the side of the bowl (2each 10mm bolts).
The truck looks good Louis! Where are you from?
I always run my tank down past E. When you don't ALL the time and switch tanks, say at 1/4, then your slowly building up junk in that tank. Then when you can't find a gas station and you use that 1/4 tank, your sucking up a lot of junk all at once. I perfer to use all the tank, then you slowly clog your filter instead of cloggging it up all at once.
OK, while we're at it with silly questions, answer me this. How is it that you suck up the junk in your tank only when the tank is getting close to empty? Isn't the fuel pickup tube at the bottom of the tank anyway? Seems to me that any junk that was in the bottom of the tank would get sucked up gradually regardless of the level of fuel. Unless you have dirt that floats!
Ian i changed the filter about 3 mounths ago. I havent changed it since. I had a new one but it dosent fit cause it has a diffrent cap.. Yeah but iam buying me a new one before i crank my truck up again. And nate as far as your quistion goes, iam not really shure. What i think is i might have a fuel tank thats coroded. Whatever fell off the tank was collected in the bowl. BUT THATS AN IDEA!
Nate, That's a interesting theory and you might be right. I just know a few years ago this subject was beat into the ground. In reading the thread it was about 60% for draining the tank and 40% didn't think it was any big deal. The pickup is not on the very bottom and most of the junk lays on the bottom. Less fuel in there, more junk floating around percentage wise. I don't know, I do it on both tanks but I have admit, my security blanket is in the bed of the truck, 40 gallon aux tank!

Also less fuel in there, more waves inside the bottom of the thank and more possibility to move the junk there, IMHO. I would like to see the interior of the tank to have a better idea what are we talking about.
So Im with the people that dont go more than a 1/4 left in the tank. And most of us dont have the security blanket
