So I've got air intrusion in my fuel line and have tried to search the remedy but didint find too much, I was kind of hoping for a "how to" kinda dealy. Any one know where I can find the parts and what the job entails?
First check the rubber hose at the lift pump. Then check the return lines on top of the motor.
I took a garden sprayer and hooked it to the bleeder valve on the filter housing. Take out the small valve and connect a rubber hose from the sprayer. Put a small amount of pressure on the sprayer. Look for air bubbles. Mine looked like a sprinkler. That is a good start.
Do a search for return lines or injector return lines. There are many posts on this exact problem (air intrusion) so I don't know why you didn't find any... I think wreckinball did a very nice step by step, but I might be mistaken on the user name.
You need to replace the injector 0-rings and return lines. The parts can be bought from many places. My opinion is get the #111 viton o-rings from mcmaster carr, the proper size fuel hose: 1/4" for later trucks with the offset nipples, 5/16" for all 6.9's and earlier 7.3's with nipples inline with the injectors.
Unless they are cracked the plastic caps are most likely reusable, though the whole kit is pretty cheap. Use something to lubricate the rings before installing.
Oh man thanks for the help yall. (Noobie diesel owner here)
The fuel was leaking directly out of the rubber hose and because of gravity and wind it sprayed everywhere so I figured it was leaking in more then one spot. I wiped everything down then started the truck and traced the leak specifically.
A four inch, 5 dollar length of tube was stopping my truck from starting
Ah well haha glad to know it wasn't major.
