Hello, I am new to the forums but was wondering if anyone had the same problem as I have been having with my 1995 Ford F350 diesel truck.
My father and I recently put in a new motor, changed the fuel pump, changed the fuel selector and now the engine will turn over and sit idle but when we go to actually run it the fuel filter goes dry to the point that there is no diesel reaching it.
We changed out the motor since it had actually died on us and the new motor is used but still has a week under warranty in case we need to return it.
But yea the engine turns over till we try to drive it could it be the motor? Or could we have screwed up somewhere else. . .
1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums Here is a link to the page for your engine in the Diesel Section, maybe post your problem there for more specialist help.
Does it do this on both tanks? Also have you checked the fuel feed pipes from the tanks for rust/pinholes.
Was it the fuel lift pump that you replaced?
Does this model have a fuel lift pump and a regular fuel pump? But ti does do it on both of the tanks and the lines worked fine for the other engine but I couldnt see any corrosion or holes since it doesnt like at all.
Sorry I know more about gas engines than diesel. . .
Thank you for responding. I did post it on the other thread as well.
It does have a fuel lift pump. All this does is to lift fuel from the tank and deliver it to the high pressure system. It does not have a older style injector pump but does have a High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP). After the lift pump everything is computer controlled so the guys on that other page would know more about that.
However the empty fuel filter would indicate a bad lift pump or air intrusion in the fuel feed lines such that the lift pump is partially sucking air. Make sure that the filter itself is tight and that all the pipe connections are tight.
we had an 94 PSD that acted close to that and just stuck a inline cheap electric fuel pump
under the drivers door on the frame and when it acted up just turned it on , was not the best way to fix it but it worked for about 6 months before the flywheel whent out and took the trans with it !
thats all we did , got the cheapest one from parts store that was for a gas engine as it is a lift pump so you want to stay with the lower pressure pumps !
