Hey guys. I have a mechanical fuel gauge and when towing today the needle was bouncing a bit too much (10 point swing) and the noise is somewhat distracting. I'd like to put a dampener between the FPR and the separator. Anything available local that I can pick up?
I was hammering it pretty good to make it do this and it didn't really settle out until I backed out of the power for a stoplight. From what I understand, this isn't abnormal. Just annoying.
Are you running a fuel line for that gauge into the cab of your truck? If so DON'T. Get an electric gauge and there are dampeners for them. jmho

Well, I have a giant flower mounted on the dash. I like to have passengers notice the flower and then I hit the button that squirts a bunch of diesel right in their face. Then I laugh and laugh...! ...and then laugh some more. lol
Kidding aside (yes, I was kidding...really. No, really.), you missed the part about the separator, but I prolly coulda described it better.
Hmmm... nobody knows of a easy dampener to hook up...?
Several years ago I installed "ProSport" gauges along with a pressure dampener and it has worked great. I thought that I got the dampener from ProSport as well but I just contacted them and they have no clue what I am talking about. Sooooooo, I must have gotten it some place else. let me do some research and I'll get back to you on this. I think that at the time I also purchased two (2) of them as I always like to have a back up of everything. (Except wives )
Lol, thanks Rog. Since I did the hard tow on Sunday, the gauge is bouncing 10psi more often than it did. That's a bit annoying. Constant ticking coming from the gauge. I'll hafta turn the stereo up I guess. The trouble is that I am one of those types that loves to listen to the motor. It prolly stems from the days when I drove $500 cars. Crappy stereo and I needed to know if the car was still running or not.
I don't want to change all these gauges out just yet. They're simple and match the stock gauges (more or less). I wonder if I introduce some air into the glycol side of the line if that might help to dampen the fluid.
Whats this seperator you are talking about? I have a mechanical gauge but I have mine mounted on the windshield wiper cowl and the line goes from the fuel bowl and screws to the bottom of the gauge.

It mounts on the firewall and has a diaphragm in it. Diesel only goes to the diaphragm and the small plastic glycol line runs the rest of the way to the gauge pod in the cab.
I also need one of these. My isolator split wide open, spilling fuel all over the engine bay.
Ug. That sucks. Funny you should reply today. I was just looking in to this after the holiday. I had to ignore my gauge flipping wildly between 60-90psi for 16 hours.
There's a needle valve (snubber) that you can get from ISSPRO (PN - R7742) or from NAPA (PN - WH6820). The Napa part is probably cheaper.
The way I understand it, install the needle valve and open it just a crack and it will allow for the pressure to be read, but prevent it from fluctuating so dang much. It can also be used to close off the supply to a split isolator!
I'll be doing it this weekend.

I just capped my fuel pressure line, I have no idea where to get an isolator. I'm gonna call Autometer in the morning.
OK...I finally found it. go to this link and then you will have to call them and tell them you want the sender unit. It acts as a dampener. I have used one for sever years w/o any fluctuation.
