truck died

Driving down the road today and truck d.ied and coasted to a stop. it started a couple of times but just ran for about 30 seconds and died now it won't start at all. Towed it home and still won't start. Could it be the cps or something else. Any information is appreciated.

CPS is always the startin point on this one, do you have the original one, ford recall cps, parts house? I would change that to start, use a ford or international one, the parts house ones are known to be junk out of the box.

If that doesn't do it, and you do not have AE or other scan tool, I would unlug the cps next, see if it is full of oil. If it is, leave it unplugged and see if thing run normal, it will use default tables if unhooked, so its a free test.

If you have a chip check to see if its loose or just went bad. I had a superchips chip once and it went out, I removed it and all was well.

Check the oil. A buddies truck died going down the road and it ended up being the oil filter backed off and he lost enough oil to prevent the injectors from firing.

Check the oil OK. changed the cps and it will start and run for 30 seconds and die and will not start after it dies. let it sit five or ten minutes and it will start for 30 seconds and die.after doing that a couple of times now starts and dies right away. Don't know what to try next.

ICP

i would check you ICP sensor next. It is on the drivers side head, on the valley side, right in front of the hoist eyelet. Just unplug it, take a look at it, if it is full of oil, leave it unplugged and try to start the truck. If it runs fine, that is your problem.

If no change, it is time to try and find someone with a good code reader near you(AE, snap on reader, etc, not generic OBDII readers). Where are you located, we have members all over that are willing to help out?

edit: here is a picture of the ICP sensor, mine is unplugged, just left of the hoist eye, gold ring, black plastic top.

I would lean towards a sticking IPR at this point, but would be better to get a scan first if at all possible. i know there are a few members in LA here that probably have AE, hopefully one can find some time too hook up with you, hate to through parts at things in the dark unles absolutely the only option.

Tom thanks for the info. I am going to try and find a code reader before I go any further.
