The other day my airbag light came on.
I have narrowed it down to the Passenger Airbag Off light is burnt out... however I am not quite sure how to get at and remove the bulb short of disassembling the dash.
Hello,
My airbag light is on too,but when I start my truck the airbag light flashes
a code 27 I think....i am use to it now. If thats the case then it is the airbag off light is burnt out.

When I start the truck it flashes - then eventually returns to solid. I haven't deciphered the code, but I did note that the airbag off light is burnt out - so put 2 and 2 together.
Read about this on many other posts here. From ford its only sold with the entire switch assembly, but others have found a fix. The fix involves a couple inexpensive parts found at radio shack, I believe a bulb and resistor , and removing the switch assembly after removing the radio and bench soldering the replacements in.

That was what I was reading - wasn't quite sure how to get in there, the posts that I found didn't give any idea, just mentioned "replace the bulb with one from radioshack" - if I can get to it from the radio, that should work
You might be able to get to it from the radio hole. If not, removing the dash isn't hard. After you pull the radio there are 2 little screws pointing up above where the radio was. Loosen them a little. Then take a small flat blade screwdriver and insert it in the little indention under your headlight switch. Gently pry and the switch will come out of the dash. Unplug the wires, tilt your steering wheel down and then just unsnap the dash cover. I start at the hole from the headlight switch and tug to pop that side loose, then just slowly and gently work your way over toward the other side.
It's a rather simple snap in place design. Putting it back together is as easy as lining it up and giving it a tap with your palm starting at one end and working toward the other. Just remember that once you get it off, the wires to your airbag, power point, and 4x4 switch (if applicable) are still plugged in so you'll need to reach around and unplug them.
It's been a year since I did one, so I'm going off memory here. You can't get the switch out without removing the bezel. Really not hard to do, just have to remove all the plugs off the back. As I recall, the airbag switch is screwed to the back of the bezel. Once separated from the bezel you can see the bulb. From what I can remember, I either had to pry the assembly apart or unscrew it to get at the circuit board. The bulb is a small incandescent 12v clear bulb, and it has a little orange jacket on it to give it it's color. Any incandescent bulb will work, as long as the computer doesn't see an open circuit (bulb burned out opens the circuit). I don't know if an LED will work given it's different resistance and voltage characteristics, safest to just go with what you know will work. The bulb is just soldered to the small circuit board. Mine ended up being a little bit dimmer than original, but it works fine and the light in the cluster is no longer lit.
