I have a 2001 F350 with a 7.3L Powerstroke and I am having transmission shifting problems. It will not shift going up hill it goes to shift and it acts like it is in neutral the tac will peg out but no shift barely crawl up the hill. I t shifts good goin down hill and if you get a run at the hill it will hold it in gear untill u slow down it looses it. The oil is clear and dosent smell burnt and the diesel site transmission filter I have on it is clean when i cut it open. I have autoengnuity but it will not connect to this transmission. I have no lights on that i have seen on the dash. Is there anything out there that I can get to see if any codes on the transmission. Took it to dealer and they told me it had 4 hard codes and 10 soft codes but wouldnt tell me what no help and 143.00 down toliet. The olny thing they wanted to do was sell me brand newtransmisson and install it. Any help would be apperciated thank you
If the dealer read some codes, you should be able to do the same with your AE. You need to figure out the codes and post them up. We'll help you diagnose it with more info. Other than a solenoid or other valve body problem, it sounds like the trans is going to need a rebuild.
I called autoenginuity and they said that their software will not comunicate with 8800 vehcile weight and over transmissions. SO do you know of anything else will a advanced auto code reader rear these codes. I took it to ford dealer and they told me that it had 4 hard codes and 10 soft codes. But would tell me or print off what they were. They just said that I needed to buy and new transmission and let them install it. If I actually need a new transmission I will probalby buy a BTS tranny and install it.

Get ahold of Clay at RiffRaff and he can tell you what AE bundle is correct for these trucks. And I wouldn't go back to that dealer if they are acting like that. If you paid for a diagnostic, they should tell you in plain english what the codes meant and give you the #'s, printout etc. I'm surprised they didn't try to sell you a set of injectors as well. BTW, The OD light on the shifter will blink if there are tranny codes stored in the PCM.
The proline is a hardware connector not a bundle. It sounds like you have the basic AE with no enhanced software or it isn't activated. Either way the AE will read the codes and perform diagnostics on any Ford vehicle through the F-550. Give us a call and we can walk you through it and see what the issues are.
you need to get codes to see what the truck is telling you, verify what the computer is telling you, if codes are in the trans, the OD light will flash for hard codes. It very well could be a trans issue but I would make sure it is not engine related. I have seen it too often that a customer will come into my shop thinking they had transmission problems, but it was actually engine runability that was the issue. and what your feeling going up hills is actually the trans downshifting but its fast enough to make you think its neutralizing. take it too a transmission specialist and let then Diag it. just my .02 worth
I have read codes on other transmissions before with my autoenginunity and my buds version. According to Bill at auto enginuiyt fords software at 2001 and before isnt supporrted to preform diagnostics on the transmissions it does read the soleniods the voltage and speed sensors but when u hit get vin it doesnt open another drop down window for the transmission diagnostic tests.
I would march back to that dealership and have a little talk with whomever thinks they're in charge. You paid for the diagnostic, you deserve the results. If that doesn't work move on to his/her boss. If that doesn't work, I've found that throwing a "hissy" in front of other customers will change some tunes real quick. No need for cursing or vulgarities, just some choice customer service complaints within earshot of others. You paid for a service, go claim the results.
I hate to act like that but I've had some of my best results taken care of on the showroom floor with the general manager. The people in the waiting room already spent their hard earned money, the ones in the showroom have not!
