My 2000 V10 has spewed about half the contents of the reservoir 2 times in the past 2 weeks when stopped at a traffic light. Neither time has it run hot or even gone up. A knowledgable parts guy told me it could be the cap was not tight. The second time I had tightened the cap. He said it was not the thermostat sticking as I thought it might be since the truck has been stored since 2009 and I have just put it back in use. I cannot find a leak in the reservoir or hoses. It has occurred on 2 of the hottest days we have had, near 90 with the AC running. Any ideas how to diagnose this? Thanks.
Try a new cap. It might have gotten weak. Besides that I would check hoses to see if there's blockage. How many miles in between spuels have you driven?
Don't trust the dash gauge. They are controlled by computer and show you what you should like, not what you have.
Even with bad cap the coolant not supposed to boil over in normal operating temperatures.
Get infra-red thermometer and measure what exactly you have.
Cracks in 10-years old reservoirs are common, so check where exactly the coolant is coming from.
