You've got a heavy pig of a truck there. Did it scale at 10,000 lbs?
You'll have a harder time getting me to believe the Super Duty is more efficient than the Prius. Sure a SD can get okay mpg while hauling a big load. Sure a Prius gets good mpg while hauling 4 people. That's what they do. I know that when I haul my family in every morning and drop them off one by one I would rather be in a Prius for the final 15 miles of my drive. Apples to oranges. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a nice used Jetta TDI right now. It's much more "efficient" for my daily driving needs.
Well if you're looking for a nice used TDI take a look at my post "Oh what a mistake" in the F150 forum. 2011 TDI golf with 1200 miles for sale...
That's 10k w/ add ons? Cattle catcher, oversized tires, toolbox? I don't know curb weight of the 450/550s but I've yet to hear of a 3/4 or 1ton weighing over 8k stock. So that should read
Prius=3k
My SD=10k
Take a look around the room. Full of SD owners and want to compare effience with a prius. WTF? Why? Not even related. My SD excedes the prius's gvwr mt.
We're setting here talking about pulling gooseneck trailer, and 30 ft 5ers, across mountains and somehow driving kids to school in a sadan/coup relates?
Heck, I do a Honda Civic that gets about 38MPG for my daily 126 mile commute. I use my 2001 crew V10 for about everything else. They are both different vehicles with different uses, kind of what Exiled is saying. Yep, I feel outside my comfort zone commuting in the Honda, but part of being a real man is doing what's right by your family. Driving my V10 126 miles a day isn't it. So when I pull up to the pump next to those guys driving Chebbies, and they are giving me "the look" I'm giving them the "bring it on, I got an F250 V10 at home look".
The Prius is a huge jump I would not take, as I'm not looking to make a statement, just trying to save money. But I don't think badly of someone driving a Prius unless their bumper stickers make me. I have a buddy who bought one, we all hassled him for it. One guy said "there's nothing wrong with a Prius, I know lots of hairdressers who own one" Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!
When I saw the title of the thread I immediately thought a SD hit one. I got all excited to see a smashed prius lol.
That's cool so the per pound the good looking Super Duty is more efficient than the ugly pruis and the total MPG is only better because it is lighter. The Super Duty can do more things too and it isn't embarrassing to drive! Honestly I think a minivan is more manly than a pruis.
Hybrids are the end of car enthusiasts as we know it, which is why I will never own one. Just picture a mustang, corvette, etc. in electric form. Sure it could probably be just as fast, but imagine the sound. NOTHING!

The prius is not actually "efficient", its just small. lol.
just thought i'd share that
My 30,000 lb bus conversion makes 6 mpg on old 2-cycle Detroit.
Weight is smaller participant in the moving resistance. The air drag is. Bigger vehicles usually have smaller cross section comparing to weight, that smaller one.
Than compare Harley efficiency per weight.

I'm with ya brother. You won't get any disagreement from me. I just wonder how is driving the honda more doing right by your family than the SD?

That would be a nightmare, basically would take almost all the reasons to have them. The V8 is what made those cars what they are.
I agree on that until I click yup no pictures
This is first reason why I won't own smallcar since I need tow or carry. So i learn how drive slow and coast so much I could get save $$ in tank.
That's right. I saw a ford sign about a year ago advertising for the Ford Super Duty saying "you can't tow with a hybrid." I thought it was great.

Doing right only because of the money saved in fuel costs. 630 miles per week @ approximately 38MPG the Honda uses 17 gallons @ approximately $4 per gal that's $68 weekly. If I were to drive the V10 @ approximately 13.8MPG it would use 45 gallons which is $180 weekly. That's $272 a month to drive the Honda vs $720 for the F250. Both vehicles are paid for so there's really just the added cost of regular maintenance and insurance, and that is minimal, so it leaves about $680 in the family budget for the rest of life's bills.
I'm a truck guy, so like I said, the pride takes a hit when I'm driving the Honda vs the F250. But they are different vehicles with different intended uses.

Gotcha brother. That was what I was asking. I didn't know if you was tslking about fuel cost or safety or what. I hear ya. I have mustangs to hold up the pride. I just don't get to drive them much. No they don't save as much but I get at least 25 mpg if I keep my foot out of it and make good shifts. My wifes 2010 mustang get 28 mpg if I drive it alittle harder. Hey put a paint scheme on that honda and make itnsound like a honda 2000 and pick up some pride point. Lol
Around here we battle safty claims and test results and all that bs. If you use the test's results and then divide by the sq ft of of the cab a superduty is the safiest thing on the road.
