Trans shift linkage loose

The transmission shift linkage is loose inside my trans on my 4r100 is there any way to tighten it up?

Is it rotational slack or 'in and out'? Did it happen all of a sudden?

Its rotational. An it gradually happened I didnt notice it until a few days ago

#1 is the nut holding the detent plate to the shaft
#2 is the manual control shaft
#3 is the detent spring with a roller on the end of it that rides in the notches of the detent plate

There may be a problem with the spring or the bolt loosened up holding it.
