My father's 2000 Ranger 4.0 4x4 is having front brake issues. He is in the middle of traveling from Connecticut to Indiana and called me to say the front brakes practically lock up even if he just lightly presses on the brake pedal.
What could cause this to happen? If there is a blockage in the rear brake lines could it cause all the force from the master cylinder to be applied to only the front brakes? Like I said, even if he taps the brakes, the front wheels almost lock up and both front wheels are now black with brake dust.
I'm was already planning on traveling out there to meet up with him this weekend so I would like to gather some ideas and more information so we can possibly fix this once I see him. Hopefully we can resolve this before he has to drive all the way back.
slider pins stick and cause the caliper/pads to drag which might be causing some issue. if there is a lot of black powder than that might be it.
remove the pins and grease with high temp dielectric grease. Don't use brake grease. Brake grease will destroy the rubber boot on the slider pin
