front brake locking up

this is my brothers truck 05 f-150 4x4, i put brakes front and back and flushed the system about six months ago now. the other day when he was coming home from college the front passenger tire locked up. he drove it home and i went over took it apart nothing was sticking put it back together and it was fine. now today he call it stuck again so i just pulled it apart, pads are now purple from the heat, pins are free, caliper moves i put a small piece of wood in it and had him press the brakes the caliper moved out and i pused it back in, reinstalled everything and its not stuck no more. what do you think is causing this? my uncle says it could be the abs box acting up, when he bought the truck my dad made him buy the extended warrenty but he wont pay the 100 dollar deductible because this past winter we all went out in the two foot of snow and he got stuck so i pulled him out and our dad says thats what f$ucked his brakes up so now his is pissed. so how can i fix this for him? oh it only has 42k on it

I just went through a similiar situation except mine didn't lock up, it would make the steering wheel shake real bad though and the pads would stink. (also drivers front) I took them apart twice and found nothing, I even swithed out the pads thinking that was it. Finally I put a new caliper on and haven't had any issues since, it's been a couple months now.

My 05 had the same symptoms that joes had. Shaking and pulling, than you could stop for a minute and everything would be fine. Turned out to be a crack in passenger side caliper, replaced it and things have looked up from there. He would come out better paying the $100 deductible and letting the Ford house take care of it.

thanks for the replies guys i figured it was the calipers or the abs control box. but with only 42K isn't that a little weird? i took them apart this past Saturday and its been fine so far. i drove it the other day when it locked up and it doesn't shack shimmy or anything, also it doesn't pull that bad either it just has no power and wont move

Perfect timing. I just rotated my tires and now occassionally, my front end and steering wheel shakes. Comes and goes. Got out of the truck last night and as I walked by the front of the truck, I could feel heat coming off the driver's front wheel area. Rotor was very hot, not so on the passenger side. I will have to check the caliber tonight.

I just want to add that my 05 also has the same issue as Twindad98, except I have no shake in the front end or wheel. The driver side rotor is very hot and the passenger side is not. Hopefully this weekend I can pull it apart and see if the pads are sticking.

Smile front brakes locking up 2008 f150

i have a 2008 ford f150, my front brakes were locking up. I replaced calibers
and rubber hoses. This did not fix my problem. I drove the truck until the brakes were locking up, jacked the truck up, loosen the 2 steel lines on the master cylinder and found that one of them still had pressure in the master cylinder, my front calibers released immediatly. I replaced the master cylinder and my problem was solved. I hope this helps someone.
