Not sure what kind of crack that guy is smoking (not in the Excursion tho according to the ad). I just saw a 7.3 on Autotrader with 200k for about $15,000...
There is NO WAY in hell that the truck in the pictures has 153,000 miles on the odometer. These pictures must have been taken when the truck was new. I mean, there's not even a blemish or any wear marks whatsoever on the steering wheel....and that's just NOT POSSIBLE for a vehicle that's gone 153k.
Yeah, I'm not sure which is sadder on ebay/craigslist; the sellers who actually think this stuff will work or that their used whatever is worth only slightly less than it was brand new, or the idiots who actually fall for the scams.
IMO, the first ad is just after the $500 deposit and then you'll never hear from them again.

I think you're right.
But, I know a car fanatic who purchased an old used 1995 Chevrolet Impala cop car. He worked on it and cleaned every square inch of the car, inside and out. The pictures afterwards showed no flaws or blemishes, even though they were some visible in person. Pictures are very deceiving in online vehicle auctions.

My steering wheel has 55,000 miles on it, and it looks just like new. At 153,00 miles though, you're right, it's not going to look that good most likely.
I should take a series of pictures of my Excursion right now. Just in case I decide to sell it online in about 10 years.
