Will V8 engines live on in the future?
So I gotta admit...I'm having some issues warming up to the 3.5L Ecoboost in the F-150. I actually did some test drives recently and wound up ordering a 2011 F-150 FX4 Supercab with the 5.0L V8, but that's beside the point here.
My point is, that I did not enjoy the Ecoboost like I did the 5.0L, I can't honestly explain why, The Ecoboost was smooth running and plently powerful...But I just didn't feel enthused driving it. To me it felt more like I was driving an appliance and not so much a truck. For the record I have driven a couple of Ecoboost powered F-150's and all left me with the same impression which was a realtivly univigorating driving experience despite their good power and torque...Maybe it was the flat exhaust tone?
And also if you did infact purchase an Ecoboost F-150 don't take offense to this post! If it works for you and you love it then I'm glad for you and I don't think the Ecoboost is a bad engine persay...It just didn't excite me personally.
I do recall reading an article that was dated to have been written around January 2010 that was titled ''Ford Sees A Future for V8's'' or something of that nature. I guess the article was put the minds of traditionalist like myself at ease. But it stated that Ford still sees high potential for V8 engines and plans to expand/update their V8 engines just as much as they plan to expand/update their Ecoboost line. It did state the Ford forsee's future V8 engines being much more closely related to the smaller realtivly efficent 5.0L V8 vs the larger 6.2L V8 and that future V8's would for sure be offered in Vehicles that we would expect to have a V8 engine. This did actually ease my mind a little bit, as you should be able to tell by now that I am a V8 buff. I have also heard a rumor that Ford is considering ''Ecoboosting'' a 5.0L V8 for future Pickup and Mustang use. That is another little glimer of hope for people like me.
I will keep my 2011 for many many years...Most likely 15 to 20...maybe more. But the thing that worries me is if at the time I get ready to trade it off, What if I can't find a Ford truck configured the way I want with a V8? I've never owned anything but Fords and I plan to keep it that way. Ford has always been great at giving the customer a choice. I hope they don't change that.
But reguardless I was just curious...In ya'lls opioion...Do you think the future of Ford vehicles will still have a V8 engine as an option? Or do you think the Ecoboost I4's and V6's will ''totally'' replace V8's at some point in the future?

Your sentiments concerning the V8
mirror mine exactly. I bought the 2014 with the V8. I drove the eb, and the salesdude certainly was pushing it. I went with what I knew. Yeah the lil V6 certainly had some get up and go, but that ol V8 had served me so well for so long.....I will leave the dance with the one that brung me. Love my V8

Sounds like it was made up by prius driving, birkenstock wearing hippies..
What is wrong with "direct injection twin-turbo"?
A twin-turbo 5.0 V-8 would be out of this world.

I've got a Focus ST with a pumped up DI 2.0L turbo. Nowhere, anywhere is it referred to as an Eco-Boost because, well, that would just be silly.

The 3.5L ecoboost actually came to market in a 2007 Lincoln and the engine was named "TwinForce". Something about less green house gasses and better fuel economy while putting down the power a 6.0L V-8 led Ford to the name ecoboost.
