this next week I'm replacing my steering gear box, ball joints, drag link, connecting link, tie rods, brakes, rotors. i got the Moog parts and Ed's seal kit, I'm going to stop the floating wheel. what do i need before i start? i have the right up form Powerstoke mods page and the tools just dont wont to find i need something more.
Have you built or borrowed the seal seat tool? that is all I can think of you might be missing, assuming you have the 4x4 ball joint press kit. Other than that, some friends and some beer and you are set far as I can tell.
i'm going to make the tool. and no beer dont drink and i will be doing all of it by myself, and i have a 20 ton press to get them out and in. i have done the ones on a ranger 4x4 and my toyota 2wd and my dads 2000 250 2wd. so this is the first 250 4x4 but it cant be that different.
Sounds like you are good to go. I built my seal press/seater off of directions here, sounds like you have found the same data. if you have done a few before on other applications, you shouldnt find any suprises doing these, pretty much the same deal, different day. Good luck, and if you hit a snag, the brotherhood is always here.
i doubt a fork will do it, on mine the only way i could get my impact on the remover was to use a wobble socket and it wouldnt budge it. i then tried my 1/2 long ratchet and busted the teeth out in it. i finally got it to pop using a 3/4 breaker bar.
I've done 3 redhead steering boxes. Every one required the above puller, a big breaker bar and some PB. Perhaps a local parts house has a tool loaner program
