I've looked around and nobody I've seen yet has put 12v power into their middle console. One thing I loved about my old Chevy and even my wifes '07 Tahoe is a cig lighter in the middle console to charge a cell phone, iPad or whatever as you wheel down the road. Maybe nobody has done a write up but has anybody else installed power into their 40/20/40 front seat for anything?
Since I'm in there monkeying around my wife used to drive an Lexus RX and it had these real dim LED lights in the cup holders. I'm not talking about anything you would read by but just a real dim light for night driving you could see things in the middle console without turning on the cab lights and blinding yourself. I plan on doing that as well.
Anybody ever seen or done anything like this before? Just want to know what to expect as I tear into the middle seat and side connectors. If nobody has written something up I'll be sure to do it.
do you have bucket seats? if so open the center consel, then take out the tray. the bottom has a rubber liner kinda thing. peel that back and you will see 4 bolts. remove them and the consel comes right out. its pretty easy to run a 12v power wire to there. just ground everything to those bolts that hold the consel down and use the 12v as your source. go to radio shack and get a "project box" mount all your fuses in there and such.
i was thinkingabout doing this for mounting a flashlight that charges off of 12v and putting a light in the consel itself.
