One thing I have never really done on a vehicle is run a transmission super low on oil when using the truck.
I have a 1991 f150 4x4 with an AOD and I have all the fluid drained out of the transmission(was in the process os pulling it to sell it but buyer backed out) and now I would like to troubleshoot some engine problems.
So long story short, and I honestly dont know, will it harm the transmission if I start the engine, let it idle, etc. I wont be moving the truck, it would just be the engine running, mainly idling, some revving, the tranny would never leave park.
Ive been pondering it, and I just cant seem to think if I will wreck the tranny or torque convertor, which I really dont want to do, sue to the low miles and excellent shape of the drivetrain! (well except for the engine running kinda poor)
I'm guessing its the brushes in the starter...mine took a dump last year in my 94'...$25....That got me new brushes, and the solenoid on top of the starter....About a 30-40 minute fix....Counting pulling the starter, etc...
